Your Newborn Session Experience

Newborn sessions are easy, unhurried, and designed to be an enjoyable experience for new parents. Below you’ll find everything you need to know—from what to expect to session options and pricing.

What to Expect during your Newborn Session

As a studio newborn photographer serving Boston and MetroWest, my Framingham studio is designed with new parents in mind. Your session is fully prepared before you arrive, with colors and setups chosen for your baby.

Sessions are calm and unhurried, allowing time for feeding, soothing, and breaks as needed. I guide you through the entire process, creating a variety of newborn portraits using wraps, blankets, and simple props—all provided for you. You can simply arrive and settle in.

Family images are natural and relaxed, capturing connection without feeling stiff or overly posed.

As a Boston newborn photographer, I know your time is valuable; coming in for multiple ordering appointments may not be possible. After your session, you will receive an online selection gallery to choose your favorite images. Those favorite images will be the images for your final gallery. They will be professionally retouched and delivered to you in two weeks in both color and black & white. The option to purchase additional images and printed artwork.

What to Bring to your Newborn Session

Most parents bring very little to their session. A diaper bag and feeding supplies are all you typically need.

Everything else is provided, including wraps, blankets, and accessories. You’re welcome to bring a special item if you’d like to include something meaningful, but it’s not required.

You may also want to bring a few things for yourself, like snacks or anything that will help you feel comfortable during your time at the studio.

Posing and Style

Newborn sessions are guided with classic posing, with the option to keep things simple and natural or include more styled setups, depending on your preference. Some families love a clean, minimal look, while others enjoy more detailed props and themed setups—this is your session, and we’ll plan it to match your style.

While each session is guided, nothing feels stiff or overly posed. We also create natural, connected images, especially during parent and sibling portraits.

After the Session

After your session, you’ll receive an online selection gallery where you can view and choose your favorite images from your session.

Your session includes a set number of digital images, with the option to purchase additional images if you’d like more. Once your selections are made, your final images are professionally retouched and delivered in both color and black & white.

Printed artwork, including albums, prints, and wall art, is also available if you’d like to enjoy your images beyond the screen.

Frequently Asked Questions about Newborn Sessions

  • Ideally, you should reserve a spot in my calendar 4-5 months before your due date; however, I hold a few open spaces a month, so please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have already had your baby.

  • Contact me via the contact page or this webpage. I’ll send you information on how to make a session reservation based on your due date.

Keep in mind, babies rarely arrive on their due date, and I plan for that. Once your baby arrives, we will arrange the actual session date and time.

  • Newborn sessions with classic posing are best completed when the baby is 2-3 weeks old, while babies are still very sleepy and naturally curl into those classic newborn positions.

Don’t worry - If your baby is older than 3 weeks, you’re not too late. Please reach out, we can create a custom session or I’ll guide you to another session that will work best for your baby’s age.

  • A studio session is designed to make the entire experience easier for new parents.

Everything is ready when you arrive. The studio is a warm and comfortable space for you and your baby, with a full selection of wraps, props, and accessories, so you don’t need to prepare anything at home. You can simply walk in, settle in, and let me take care of the rest.

While I guide each session with classic newborn posing, the experience never feels stiff or overly posed. We also create a number of natural, connected images of your baby and family. These are similar to a lifestyle feel, but without the stress of preparing your home or managing the session yourself.

  • Yes, of course! Parent and sibling images are included in select newborn sessions.

  • Each newborn session includes the session time, use of the studio, access to my wraps, props, and accessories, and a set number of digital images based on the collection you choose.

After your session, you’ll receive a selection gallery where you can choose your favorite images.

All final images are professionally retouched and delivered in both color and black & white. Additional images, albums, and printed artwork are also available.

I have specialized exclusively in newborn and baby photography for over 10 years, and my sessions are thoughtfully designed to give families the flexibility to print their images on their own.
Each session includes your time in the studio and a collection of fully edited digital images. Additional images and professional printing services are available after your session, with no required minimum purchase.

A few more things you should know about me…

  • When you review my session packages, you will see that they have a time attached to them. Don’t worry, I don’t have a timer set; it’s an estimate. There’s a chance we could be done earlier, there’s a chance it may take longer. Session timing all depends on the baby. We are on baby time at the studio, whatever they need, they get. We can stop for feedings, diaper changes, and snuggles.

  • The sessions are customized to your style. We can have a stylized newborn session or a very simple session. Many of my clients love to have both - a few scenes with a baskets, flowers or moon, and other scenes that are only the baby on a blanket. We will work together to create color themes and ideas that you love.

  • For family photos with the newborn, I like to do a combination of posed portraits and a few with a more casual lifestyle look (where family members aren’t looking at the camera, but interacting together and with the baby). If you prefer one over the other, I am happy to adjust.

  • I have been a Boston area newborn photographer specializing in professional studio newborn photography for over 12 years. I have photographed hundreds of newborns - I look forward to meeting you!

Next steps to reserve your session:

In the busy Boston area, you will want to reserve your newborn session when you are in your second trimester. I accept a limited number of newborn session reservations a month. We will schedule the actual time and date of the session after your baby arrives. Please keep in mind, newborn sessions are done in the first 2-3 weeks after birth. This is the time babies are the sleepiest, and we can capture them peacefully resting in all their poses.
